The involvement of Dato 'Maharajalela as a key figure in the murder of JWW Birch is implementing the decisions of Durian Sebatang on July 21, 1875, chaired by the Sultan Abdullah and attended by the chief or his representative. Unfortunately, he was found guilty of the murder of JWW Birch on November 2, 1875 in Pasir Salak court convened from December 14 to December 22, 1876 in Matang, Perak. He was sentenced to death on January 20, 1877 in Taiping.
